How far ahead of time should I schedule my newborn session?
A few weeks before the baby arrives. Contact us while you are still pregnant and thinking about your newborn photos. We will schedule a time for you on our calendar. Of course we are always flexible with this time depending on when your baby arrives. There is always wiggle room around your date to accommodate babies that come a bit early, or a bit late.
Where are your newborn sessions held?
I have a beautiful studio off of Magazine Street in the Lower Garden District. Generally sessions are held there. All our props, blankets etc are housed in the studio, and the light is always gorgeous. I can accommodate you by coming to your home for a travel fee of $75.
How long is a newborn session?
The newborn session is entirely a patience game. It is the only session where the baby runs the show. Plan for around 3 hours. We plan time into the session for the baby to eat, cry a bit, and get back to sleep.
How old should my baby be for the newborn session?
Newborns are best photographed in the first 14 days. This is the time when they are still sleepy and can curl up into those cute poses without too much trouble.
Who should come to the newborn session?
Parents of course! I love having siblings in the pictures as well. I find that younger siblings tend to get restless when they come for the entire session as there is a lot of down time. I recommend having them come for about 15-20 minutes of the session so they can jump in and take their shots. Due to the nature of the newborn session, it is difficult to accommodate large numbers of family members. Please contact me if more than your immediate family is planning on coming to the session.
What should I wear to the session?
Anything that is comfortable! For the shots with mom and dad, I recommend solid colored tops. I prefer no bold patterns or stripes. I also have a selection of wraps and scarves that mom can wear on top, depending on your preference.
