Newborns and Kids on film? Yes!! I used to shoot newborns in props and baskets. Super cute, but also super not my style. Somehow I thought that was how I was supposed to shoot newborns. Last year, I took a workshop with Sandra Coan. It changed everything. I’d already been shooting weddings and portraits on film, but somehow the idea of incorporating film into newborn photography was so daunting! Newborns have to be shot indoors, I use a strobe, how would I ever do that with film? I was determined to learn.
This is the first roll of film I ever shot of families on film in a studio, at Sandra’s workshop. I’m in love. I love the simplicity of it, I love not using props, I love having minimal posing. This is how I would want my own family to be photographed, and that is what Erika Parker Portraits is all about. Photographing your family, the way I would want mine photographed.
